Gehry’s Design Process

The Gehry Partners’ design process has developed over many years. Creative vision, innovation and intuition drive the process, along with the belief that constant collaborating with the client produces the strongest results.

It starts with the client’s design brief, followed by extensive site analysis for a complete picture of the terrain, and massing studies to understand the structure’s proportions in relation to the landscape.

Next, the Gehry team creates models of different scales to explore both the functional and sculptural aspects of the project and allows for studies on both a detailed and an urban level.

Continuous refining of models over a long period of time enables the team to experiment with the building’s spatial configuration and architectural expression.

Actual building materials, large-scale mock-ups and advanced technology are used early in the process to promote design understanding and to ensure it evolves according to goals defined by the client.

Featuring models and sketches used in the creation of his most famous buildings, this exhibition reveals Gehry’s intriguing design process and reveals how the architect’s remarkable vision is brought to fruition.
